Congress regains stronghold in Latur Municipal Corporation, securing key majority in 2026 polls

The 2026 Latur Municipal Corporation (LMC) election results have delivered a major political shift as the Indian National Congress (INC) reclaimed control, winning a significant number of seats in the local civic body. According to official counts, the Congress secured 43 out of 70 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) finished a distant second with 22 seats. The remaining seats were won by smaller parties and independents, showing a fragmented but decisive outcome.

Political analysts say this victory reflects a renewed confidence among Latur voters in the Congress leadership, underlined by effective grassroots campaigning and local alliances, especially with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA). The Congress-VBA alliance was able to mobilize supporters and secure victories across several key wards, reversing the BJP’s performance from previous years.

Local party leaders welcomed the results as a validation of their governance promises and community engagement efforts. BJP leaders acknowledged the defeat and suggested internal evaluations to strengthen the party’s strategy in future local and state elections. Voter turnout also showed enthusiastic participation, underscoring the public’s keen interest in municipal governance.
